■ TOKYO, JAPAN: My second trip to Japan was back when they hosted the soccer world cup together with South Korea. It was a culture shock of epic proportions but in a very good way. I didn’t know a single word of Japanese and neither did they seem to know a single word of English.
When that’s the case there isn’t really much else you can do but to walk around and smile at people. So I did. And they smiled back at me. The Japanese are in fact very open and kind towards foreigners. And seeing as they were hosting the world’s biggest sporting event they were determined to show the world what Japan is truly made of.
They succeeded 🙂
